Mixed Media Drawing

Using visual exercises and mixed-media approaches, we will explore how to transform our 3D surroundings into 2D designs. Working with commonplace materials (think erasers, rulers and colored pencils!) we will manipulate space, color, and surface. Art by numerous artists such as Henri Matisse, Hannah Hoch or Piet Mondrian will guide us as we look at altering scale, layering media, using color to affect space, and assembling non-figurative images. While essentially a drawing exploration, we will be using gouache, collage, and even photography as we adventure into abstract representation.
