Have you been interested in going big, playing with scale, and changing up the relationship between viewer and artwork? This workshop is an investigation into expressing the landscape through large-scale painting and abstraction. The first meeting will introduce this approach, looking at the work of Abstract Expressionists like Helen Frankenthaler and heading "en plein-air" to gather natural inspiration and sketch out different compositions. Our next meetings will be spent translating these compositions onto a large scale 4 ft. by 5 ft. paper, and then focusing on large brushstrokes, pouring techniques, and other methods to utilize the large surface for expression. We will also incorporate elements of color theory to help you understand creating your own palettes and successfully layering colors.
