Writing About Art

This class is for anyone who wants to develop a deeper understanding of art through observation and expression, with the emphasis on writing in a way that’s both intellectually rigorous and fun to read. No artspeak here! Each week a different subject is assigned—in the beginning, anonymously, so that the only research is your own observation. In the next class, each person reads their piece aloud to the group for feedback. After the subject has been thoroughly discussed, the name of the artist is revealed with links to the writing of professional critics on the subject. Most often students are happily surprised to discover that their insights are equally significant, if not more so!
